Skin Peels

What are chemical peels

A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to help peel away the top layers. The skin that grows back after a chemical peel is generally smoother and younger-looking. Chemical Peels are a treatment option for both men and women; in fact, peels are the ideal treatment for anyone wanting to work towards a radiant glow to their skin.

There are thousands of skin conditions and most are responsive to this treatment. The most common conditions that we are presented with are acne, hyperpigmentation due to excessive sun, fine lines, tired-looking skin and scars

Chemical peels can be done at different depths depending on your desired results. Each type of chemical peel uses a different chemical solution. Deeper chemical peels may produce more dramatic results but also involve longer recovery times. Results on any treatment may vary per individual as everybody is different and may respond differently to the treatments mentioned.

Choosing Your Peel

Depending on the condition we are addressing and your desired result, we will help you choose the best option from the three depths:

Light peel. A light, or superficial, chemical peel helps to remove the outer layer of skin (epidermis). It is used to treat fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone, and dryness. You might have a Light peel as often as once a week for up to six weeks — depending on your desired results.

Medium peel. This type of chemical peel helps to remove skin cells from the epidermis and portions of the upper part of your middle layer of skin (dermis). A Medium peel treats wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin tone. You might repeat a Medium peel every six to 12 months to maintain results.

-Deep peel. A Deep peel helps to remove skin cells from the epidermis and from portions of the mid to lower layer of your dermis. Your doctor might recommend a Deep peel if you have deeper wrinkles, scars, or precancerous growths.

HOW IS A CHEMICAL PEEL DONE?

Chemical peels are typically done in-office; deep peels may be done in an outpatient surgical facility. Before the procedure, we will likely have you tie back your hair. Your face will be cleaned, and eye protection like goggles or gauze may be applied.

Your doctor may numb the area with a topical anesthetic, especially if you’re receiving a deep peel. For deep peels, your doctor may also use a regional anesthetic, which will numb large areas. We are particularly likely to do this if you’re having your face and neck treated. For deep peels, you’ll also be given an IV, and your heart rate will be closely monitored.

Light peel

During a light peel a cotton ball, gauze, or brush will be used to apply a chemical solution like salicylic acid to the area being treated. The skin will start to whiten and may have a slight stinging sensation. Once complete, the chemical solution will be removed or a neutralizing solution will be added.

Medium peel

During a Medium peel, your doctor will use a gauze, a special sponge, or a cotton-tipped applicator to apply the chemical solution to your face. This may contain glycolic acid or trichloroacetic acid. Blue color may be added to the trichloroacetic acid, commonly known as a blue peel. The skin will begin to whiten, and the doctor will apply a cool compress to the skin. You may feel stinging or burning for up to 20 minutes. No neutralizing solution is needed, though they may give you a hand-held fan to cool your skin. If you’ve had the blue peel you will have a blue coloring of your skin that may last for several days after the peel.

Deep peel

During a deep peel, you will be sedated. The doctor will use a cotton-tipped applicator to apply phenol to your skin. This will turn your skin white or grey. The procedure will be done in 15-minute portions, to limit the skin exposure to the acid.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Before your procedure, you’ll first have a consultation with the skincare specialist, which can be done in house on the day of your consultation. During this visit, we will help you determine what the best treatment option is for you. They’ll let you know the details about the specific peel you’ll be getting, and we will ask about anything that could interfere with the peel. This may include whether you’ve taken acne medication and information about whether or not you scar easily.

“I have had a few procedures with Dr Pakkiri and I can’t recommend her enough!! I went in willing to do (and spend)whatever was needed to get rid of my old lady face. She was adamant that she didn’t overdo the work, and if I wanted more, I could always come back. But, she is so good! I LOVED everything she did and now see her for my routine “maintenance”. Bottom line, I was willing to spend a fortune, but she got me back to my younger self for a fraction of the cost. Trust me! she is honest, approachable and extremely skillful!”

“When I really started to peel, I didn’t experience any  irritation or reaction to the products.I have suffered with hyperpigmentation and melasma since 2004 and I have seen numerous Dr’s over the years but from experience I can confidently confirm that Dr Pakkiri has been the most successful with my skin condition. I highly recommend her and her team, they deliver exceptional results at Rejuvicell”

“Let me say first that Dr Pakkiri has the skill and desire to help you look your best without looking like you’ve had anything done. I started to notice the skin under my eyes was looking dark, crepey and wrinkled. Dr Pakkiri’s recommendation was a deep chemical peel under my eyes. She informed me that there would be some downtime following the peel. The swelling, peeling and redness were manageable, lasting about 2 weeks before I felt comfortable going out in public without my sunglasses. The reward, however, of beautiful bright new skin was totally worth it. I no longer have to wear concealer either!”
